Izmir International Airport
Arrived there at 8 30 am. Lots of blokes hanging about outside- yawning. Mother travelling back to UK alone needs wheel chair and assistance. Nobody outside seems to speak Turkish, altho I do! Grrrr!
After mother and I have stood about outside the building for some time, waiting for Mr sunflower to beg a wheelchair from s'one , I phone Mr s, who says s'one is coming. Mother and I decide to walk in as best she can. Miserable airport staff member appears, strolls over w/wheelchair and deigns to let mother sit in the wheel chair- which he hardly bothers to control!
Anyhooo sour faced police woman demands (in Turkish) that mother (UK cit w/no Turkish) walks through the x ray machine. Mother manages this but is nervous of sitting back in chair as guy is chatting to the other policemen there and she is not sure if the break is on or not! Doesn't want to go flying and falling backwards, breaking both her hip replacements! :o
Police and guy mumble away, finally mother is taken to check in. After this things go better and she gets wheeled thru passport control.
Lesson: If one needs help at Izmir Airport ( Adnan Menderes) , go to the desk where one needs to check in (or airline office) and ask for the assistance from there- they then send it. But it is a hassle if one needs help from the dropping off vehicle (pavement outside) and if one is on one's own.
And don't expect too much!
Bon Voyage!
